Aishwarya Rai to be honoured by French Government

Bachchan Bahu is in the news and this time it is not related to her shelved film ‘Heroine’. The actress will be honoured with the prestigious Officer Dan Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres by the French Government in the National capital, New Delhi tomorrow [Wednesday].

This award happens to be French governments second highest civilian award. It is equivalent to Padma Vibhushan award of India. It is bestowed to people who have immensely contributed to the field of arts, culture or literature apart from achieving immense recognition.

Previous recipients of this French honour include the likes of Robert Redford, George Clooney, Meryl Streep and India’s own Shah Rukh Khan. Aishwarya will be the first Asian actress and youngest Indian to win this honour.

French daily ‘Le Figaro’ publicly declared this by saying that, “”She (Ash) is one of the most famous Indian actors in this country and outside the borders of India. Aishwarya will be made Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, Wednesday, July 13, by the Ambassador of France in New Delhi, Jerome Bonnafont. According to a statement from the embassy, the ceremony will be attended by the family of the young woman in full.”

Earlier too Ash was offered this award but she refused it as her father was ill at that point of time.
